Bideford Folk Festival
Saturday 18th, August 2007
A rain drenched Bideford meant that we had to rely on our resources and find a dry venue for this popular day of dance. After being turned down by "Atlantic Village" shopping mall, we were welcomed with open arms at the "Big Sheep" (well worth a visit), we danced in a Marquee and then, later in the afternoon, outside.
It was great to see some real-life sheep that were not on our faces, they have their own Brewery there as well with 10% proof beer (ask Brian M, he'll tell you when his hang-over has gone)!
We finished the afternoon with a dance spot on the Quay at Bideford after the rain had stopped, hoorah!

07-07-07 Party On!
Saturday 7th, July 2007

A lovely sunny July afternoon saw Dartmoor Border Morris dancing at the birthday party of Geoff Lakeman and friends. With folk musicians and singers to the fore (including Seth) - it was heavy going on the grass, but an enjoyable 'Tinner's Rabbit' which included the birthday hosts drew delight from the audience.

Dartmoor goes to the seaside, Teignmouth Folk Festival
Saturday 23rd, June 2007
The day got off to a wet start for us but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm as we performed an excellent repetoire before a large crowd. After being officially opened by the Mayor, things got underway for the 9th annual festival. Dartmoor had to seek shelter at one point in the morning, along with some members of Bideford Phoenix, but, then the sun shone. Towards the end of the afternoon, the opposite photo opportunity arose after we all took to the beach to perform "Tinners Rabbits" in the sea.

BBCtv Countryfile film Dartmoor Border Morris
Wednesday 6th, June 2007
Two researchers (Ruth and Peter) spent the day with DBM Foreman Sue J. for the video diary feature on the BBCtv Sunday Morning programme, Countryfile.
Their idea was to show Morris Dancing from a female perspective.
Sue was followed all day and also in the evening with the side, when we danced outside The Royal Oak, Meavy.
It was rounded off with a terrific music session in the pub, although you could be forgiven for thinking it was a desperate audition for the X-Factor tv programme!
Sue's video diary will be aired in a few weeks.

British Heart Dance
Wednesday 14th, February 2007
Heart of Dance
To all those who came to Morrisons on Valentine's night, a huge well done! It was well received by everyone who watched, and I think we all had great fun! More outs like that I say!! Hopefully the British Heart Foundation collected loads of money too.
Buckland Abbey Wassail
Wednesday 17th, January 2007
The Wassail proved to be an enjoyable night with songs, stories and chants and two dance spots. Our dances included Ring of Bells, Speed the Plough and the topical Adderbury 'Shooting'. One of the highlights was the apple and spoon race where several teams competed against each other in a relay up and down the barn. The procession to the orchard was dry! Everyone joined in making as much noise as possible to shake the apple trees from their slumber. Ribbons were tied onto twigs and cider soaked toast was left in the branches before cider was poured over the roots to ensure a healthy crop!
Buckland Abbey Mummers Play
Sundays 10th & 17th December 2006

The plays were a great success this year with the introduction of the Groom and Horse and a charming young assistant Nurse to the Doctor.
Dancing after the first two performances of the play on the 10th, was inside the cold barn because of the nasty inclement weather outside and was well recieved but after the second two performances on the 17th, we were able to take our dancing outside where we had terrific fun and entertainment.

Buckland Abbey Sheep Day
Sunday 15th October 2006
The weather stayed kind for us to celebrate the 12th Birthdays of Sophie, Stephanie & Sue - the three wire sheep that have residence at Buckland Abbey.
The great barn was filled with lots of wooly fun for this event - there were even rosettes for the sheep (seen opposite) and birthday cards were a-plenty.
Sheep Biscuits were being made throughout the day and some members of Dartmoor (if not all!) munched on these rather scrumptious treats in between the dance sets.
During the day, Squire also led us in a chorus of "Happy Birthday to Ewe".
Wedding at Two Bridges
Friday 14th July 2006
The sun shone for the wedding of Emma and Greg Solomon at the prestigious Two Bridges Hotel on Dartmoor.
With guests from far and wide, we produced an energetic display of Morris Dancing, sprinkled with fertility lore and rites.
Our Hobby Horse, Chatterley, presented the bride with a tuzzy muzzy, a traditional olde English posy made up of symbolic herbs.
Confetti was showered over the happy couple at the end of the Ashpole dance and they both joined in Tinners Rabbits.
It ended with a morris guard of honour, before they made their way to their bower.
Practice Season
Dartmoor Border practise weekly from October to May at the Village Hall in Meavy, near Yelverton, every Wednesday from 8.00pm - 10.00pm
then it's into the pub!
We welcome interested musicians and dancers. An ability to know your left foot from your right foot is an advantage.
